Hiking La Malinche (Malintzin)
La Malinche (Malintzin) is the 6th higest mountain in Mexico (4.420 m -14.500 ft) and most of the year remains without snow. Therefore it’s a much easier climb than its neighbors Pico de Orizaba and Iztaccihuatl. Anyway, bad weather conditions, bad planning or lack of physical condition may turn this climb into an unforgettable one.

The Climb:
The most common route, due to its beauty and accessibility is beginning at “Las Cabañas del IMSS” (3.330 m – 10.950 ft) were we leave our car. From there we begin walking through a beautiful high altitude forest. Sort of half through the climb, the forest leads to a low and alpine vegetation and further on to a sandy and rocky terrain where we get some spectacular view from the outstanding Pico de Orizaba at one side and to the Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl at the other. Finally we are forced to rock climb a little to reach the summit of this beautiful volcano.
